Day 1 in Caracas by Eric MorenoBAYGI

Today has been an exciting and tiring day. Since we got here we barely got any rest. We arrived at the airport in Caracas at 5:15am then we rested for only an hour to start, because we had a busy schedule. In the morning we went to a kind of freedom school at La Pedrera in a barrio called Antimano on the outskirts of Caracas. The people really motivated me; the parents really are concerned about their children. They want the best for them and that’s why they take them to school and that’s why they support those community schools. I asked one of the mothers if she felt like she was doing everything she possibly could do to teach these kids. She said “yes” and that she was doing everything out of her heart and that’s all she could possibly do to teach. I agree with her- if your passion is beyond just teaching students and rather impacting their lives- that way is better than anything because if she just teaches the child, the child still may end up in the streets.
